Why not use silicon steel sheet for amorphous alloy transformer?


The amorphous alloy is solidified by super rapid cooling. When the alloy solidifies, the atoms have no time to arrange and crystallize orderly. The solid alloy obtained is a long-range disordered structure, and there are no grains and grain boundaries of the crystalline alloy. This amorphous alloy has many unique properties. Because of its excellent properties and simple process, it has become the focus of research and development in the field of material science since the 1980s. Fe based amorphous alloy is composed of 80% iron, 20% silicon and class B metal elements. It has the characteristics of high saturated magnetic induction intensity, magnetic permeability, exciting current and iron loss, which are better than silicon steel sheet.
Amorphous alloy transformer is a kind of power transformer with low loss and high energy efficiency. This kind of transformer takes iron-based amorphous metal as the iron core. Because the material does not have a long-range ordered structure, its magnetization and demagnetization are easier than ordinary magnetic materials. Therefore, the iron loss (i.e. no-load loss) of amorphous alloy transformer is 70-80% lower than that of traditional transformer with silicon steel as iron core. As the loss is reduced, the demand for power generation is also reduced, and the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide is also reduced accordingly. Based on the factors of energy supply and environmental protection, amorphous alloy transformers are widely used in large developing countries such as China and India.
